For more than 40 years, Alzheimer Groupe Inc. (AGI) has been a lifeline for families navigating the challenges of dementia. This past year, we've provided thousands of moments of care and support to hundreds of individuals, helping them find guidance, resources, and hope during difficult times.

“My dad came to me four years ago because his memory was failing in a way that made it impossible to live on his own in his residence facility. We always thought he was hard of hearing, but you taught me, he was actually hard of understanding.

 

The early days of one-on-one therapy for him were so much fun, and they showed me many ways to do things with him that focused on what he COULD do rather than couldn’t do anymore. And then the music therapy! I think that was the greatest gift of all to us.

 

We sang our way through old song books for fun, but then singing was also a way to distract or calm him when he seemed agitated, especially toward the end of his life. 

 

So amazing to me was the hold that music had on his memory–he was able to sing three verses of some old favourites at a time when he could no longer put a single sentence together.
